france interEU plans airline blacklist AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD A blacklist of airlines that have had aircraft grounded for safety reasons is being planned by European Union officials. The EU's Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot said on Thursday (18 August) that such a blacklist could be established under an existing EU agreement regarding sharing information on air safety. Speaking to France Inter radio, the commissioner said that the crash of a West Caribbean Airways aircraft in Venezuela on Tuesday (16 August) showed that an airline blacklist was now vital.
